Choosing a course

Is this course 100% online?

Yes – this course can be accessed online 24/7 with no in-person learning required.

However, there’s nothing quite like in-person training, which is why we also offer hybrid online + in-person sessions.

Course delivery can be customised for your business – please get in touch to find out more.

How long does it take to complete the modules?

‘Thermometers and the cold chain practitioner’ has been designed for on-demand learning. Once you have access to the course you can complete the courses at your own pace, at a time convenient for you. We typically find that trainees take 2 – 3 hours to complete this course.

What background knowledge do I need?

If you are working in any part of the cold chain, a basic understanding of how and why goods need to be kept at specific temperatures is all you need to take this course.

Are there any prerequisites for this course?

No – this is an entry-level course designed to be accessible and easy to understand for all cold chain practitioners.

What is the difference between the Practitioner and Managing Practitioner courses?

The two courses contain similar content however each is geared to different job functions.

Cold chain practitioners are responsible for the safe handling of chilled and frozen foods from the farm or factory to the consumer. They are typically people who work in cold rooms and storage facilities, on loading docks, and in refrigerated transport.

Managing practitioners are those in supervisory or management roles. They are involved in decisions regarding asset selection and handling procedures that can have a financial impact on the business.

Completing a course

Will I earn a certificate for this course?

Yes – upon successful completion of the course, our team will provide you with a personalised digital certificate or printed hard copy if requested (postage costs not included). You can share this with your employer or add it to your resume.

Is this an accredited course?

Whilst this training course is not considered nationally recognised training by the Australian or State Governments, it is recognised, endorsed and recommended by the Australian Food Cold Chain Council (AFCCC) and other key industry associations.

What will I be able to do when I have completed the course?

Your new skills will enable you to accurately select measurement devices, use procedures and apply techniques for precision temperature control in your workplace. By immediately applying your new knowledge at work you can open up career development opportunities both within your organisation and externally.

Do I need to complete a refresher course at a later date?

As our courses have been designed with continuing professional development (CPD) in mind, we are always updating the material with the latest products and techniques.

For this reason, we highly recommend an annual refresher. This will ensure you keep your knowledge up to date with improvements in technology and industry best practice.

Does the ‘Thermometers and the Cold Chain Practitioner’ course comply with the Australian Cold Food Code?

The Australian Food Cold Chain Council (AFCCC) is currently developing a new Cold Food Code, and SuperSchool is working closely with the Council to ensure training materials closely align with the principles in the Code itself.

‘Thermometers and the cold chain practitioner’ has been specifically created as an accessible and user-friendly way to understand the concepts put forward in Part 1 of the five-part Code series. You can find out more about the Code here along with an overview of the Cold Chain Professional Development series.

Not at the moment – we’ve priced this course affordably to keep it accessible for everyone.
